Abused “Mercy” Needs Medical Expenses Covered

Arrrooo fellow pets and humans! Grrrrr, I’m warning you these pictures are awful and I’ve got my hackles all the way up at the inhumanity of the human pile of poop who did this! I’d hike my leg all over him right now if I could, grrrrr. This poor girl and she’s so beautiful. Please read this story and then please help, thank you, WOOF! Mom is always saying how this breed is so abused and rottenly accused when it’s the humans that need mandating. This is just one more case in point:

Here’s the latest….
Maybe it is an appropriate coincidence that this dog named Mercy was taken to a no-kill shelter on Good Friday.
Her story is horrible and she’s fighting for her life. (Warning: Photos are graphic and may be upsetting.)
From this picture of her face, with cuts and scrapes around her head and shoulders, you can see that Mercy has the look of a dog that doesn’t know what’s coming next but expects that it will be bad.
She’s in the care of Operation Kindness. “Her prognosis is very guarded right now,” says Executive Director Jonnie England. “We’re just hoping infection doesn’t set in. With so many deep wounds and the top layer of skin being gone, that’s a very real possibility.”
Two young men brought the injured dog to the shelter from their North Dallas neighborhood on Friday afternoon. The Operation Kindness staff named her Mercy.
As you can see from the second photo, she has been abused — abused until she stands there raw and torn on her sides and severely injured in other parts of her body. The third photo, below, shows such awful damage.
Jonnie says one of the guys who brought Mercy to the shelter “saw her in the tree behind his apartment complex and spent 20 minutes trying to get her.
“He said they didn’t know where else to take her except to us. We immediately took her to one of the vets who works with us.” She quickly got fluids, antibiotics and painkillers.
“About an hour later,” Jonnie says, “We got a call from a young lady who said she knew who had abused the dog and told me what she witnessed. At this time we don’t want to reveal too many details, but Mercy’s injuries include being kicked and stabbed multiple times and left to die. The vet thinks she also has chemical burns and she may have been dragged behind a car.”
Yet, in the company of loving people, Mercy, perhaps 10 months old, remains “wonderfully gentle and calm,” Jonnie says.
“At the vet’s office, one of our vet techs, Melissa, sat down on the floor to comfort Mercy, who touched noses with her, then tucked her head into Melissa’s shoulder and closed her eyes.”

Now the waiting game is underway: Waiting for the dog to triumph, waiting for justice to be applied. And waiting to see if Mercy’s most severe wound was to her heart.

I would just like to sadly inform you that Mercy has passed on to the Rainbow Bridge. I received news from my girlfriend that she had passed away and the shock of this hit me today. Thank you for posting the news of her. Hopefully this will get the word out that we need to protect this very special breed. With other states and cities passing legislation over pit and pit breeds, I fear for my four “children”. I would rather move to another country than give up the breeds that I love so very much. Thanks again, God bless.

Luke,
We have been so deeply saddened, devastated really. We are hoping that people will appeal to the Attorney General of Texas to bring this criminal or criminals who did this to this absolutely sweet, kind and loving dog to justice. NO ONE -animal or human deserves this to be done to them. Mercy was appropriately named because rather than hating humans, she was merciful and loving to the end. Please help us bring her killer (s) to justice. There is an $11,000 reward to information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever did this. Please go to http://www.OperationKindness.org for details.
