Basil, the Boston Terrier Therapy Dog
By Shadrach on Aug 13, 2008 in Featured Animal Friend of the Week, Human-Dog bond
The little dogs are taking over Bark N Blog, WOOF! Hehe, Basil is a hard working Boston Terrier dog though as you’ll see below. He works hard for a living, sooo hard for a living, he works hard for a living so you better treat him right, WOOF! He came from our friend, Dr. Jeannie’s pack…what a pawsome dog!

I’m rrreally pretty tuckered out but I can hang…

Just a little snooze, nothing serious…

Oh who am I kidding? I’m going with it, woof!
In Basil’s human’s (Paula) words:
Hi Jeannie! We had our first Humane Society kids camp volunteer day today. We helped with the “dog training” lesson from 1-2, with the first/second graders. What a hoot! He was basically a demo dog and the kids practiced luring him into a sit, down and stay and then they played a game where they hid treats under various things to see if Basil could figure out how to get the treat. There were 6 dogs, and they broke the kids up into groups of 2-3, but there was still an enormous amount of stimulation with so many young kids all wanting to pet him and pay attention to him…he crashed the instant he got home (see photographic evidence)! I have never seen a gentler dog than Basil, he was such a sweetheart with the kids. One boy was a little skittish giving him his cheese at first so I showed him how to hold the cheese in the palm of his hand and let Basil just lick it up – he was just giddy with excitement when he felt Basil’s muzzle tickle his hand, and when he realized how gentle Basil would take the cheese he wanted to do it again and again…so sweet. I think Basil enjoyed it – it was new and an awful lot of excitement to be around but he did well. I think he will enjoy Saturday much more though – we have a date with the seniors in San Rafael in the morning, and they are much calmer!
Thank you Basil for the work you do for humans!
Have a pawsitively tail waggin’, therapy dog day, WOOF!

The Humane Society Kids Camp is a great way to help many kids experience the bond shared between a human and pet.
Thanks!
