Natural De-Skunk Methods

YIKES! I hope this never happens to me, WOOF! Pretty stinky stuff. It’s pretty important though that you don’t use all those nasty chemical treatments to remove skunk odor as those could be FAR worse for our health than skunk.
This article will help you with the remedies and for the natural dog shampoo as part of the remedy I personally recommend Animal Scents Shampoo by Young Living, WOOF – it’s what I use!
Natural Ways to Treat a Dog that has been Skunked
Our good friend, Randi – who is a holistic dog groomer – says tomato juice does NOT work so check out what she says to do AND what she has to say about using tomato juice hehe:
Tomato juice – It’s the biggest myth in skunky grooming. I do however use white distilled or apple cider vinegar rinse mixed with water AFTER my remedy mix for skunky smells. It does work very well. I do not rinse out the vinegar rinse. Once coat is dry, the vinegar smell will not be present. Essential oils can also be added to the vinegar rinse.
Here is what I use with 98% to 100% success rate. No joke! It MUST sit on animal for 10 to 15 minutes depending on how bad the spray is. Then rinse out well. Occasionally, a repeat may be needed, but in my experience, it was very rare it was necessary.
1 quart 3% Hydrogen Peroxide
1/4 cup Baking Soda
1 teaspoon liquid soap
(Dr. Bronner’s liquid soap line works great!) Most suggest Dawn, but I dislike Dawn very much. I will also use professional pet shampoo if that’s all I have around. Something with odor elimination.

I use Animal Scents and it’s amazing!! Never been skunked and I rarely bathe my dogs, but when they do belly flops in mud puddles I pull out the Animal Scents. They smell great and their skin is not stripped of oils or harmed in any way. MUCH BETTER choice over the stuff at pet shops/stores.
