Herxheimer’s Reaction: Healing in crisis
By Shadrach on Nov 22, 2009 in Dog & Cat Allergies, Dog Health - Immune System, Natural Dog & Cat Health
These days humans are always running off to their doctor or their pets to the vet for every little sniffle, sneeze, etc. But once you get the whole health picture and understand it, you’ll begin to recognize that those are symptoms alerting you to a deeper root cause behind it all and it is far better to avoid all those antibiotics, cough suppressants and whatever else the medical industry loves to prescribe.
Another thing my human runs into when consulting with those new to natural dog care is they don’t understand that once our bodies are supported by a proper species appropriate raw diet and we’re taken off of kibble, drugs, vaccines, that our bodies will then begin to expel the toxins – through all the eliminative organs which appears to look like more illness and/or disease. What is happening is what is called the Herxheimer’s Reaction more commonly known as the healing crisis – and that is a good thing, WOOF! It can sometimes take a long time for the body to completely heal – which is what gets humans all worried having them want to rush back to the meds instead of waiting it all out – but hey life is about the journey anyway humans NOT the destination (at least not in this life hehe).
To better help you understand here are two articles by my human and her good friend and colleague:
http://aspenbloompetcare.com/2006/01/the-healing-crisis-and-why-that-is-a-good-thing.htm
http://www.thewholedog.org/artdetox.html
And here is an audio with them discussing the Healing Crisis or what they prefer to call the Healing Response:

Now you should better understand what is going on in your dog as healing NOT sickness IF you are allowing your dog to get his true carnivore on and live a natural dog lifestyle WOOF!
Have a pawsitively tail waggin’, NATURALLY healthy day, WOOF!
